Where does the data come from?
Official city records — the health department's inspection results and related enforcement records — refreshed continuously. The app shows the record as the city publishes it.
The grade in the app doesn't match the placard in the window.
Grades move on the city's timeline: a restaurant may be awaiting a re-inspection, contesting a score, or holding a "Grade Pending" card, and the published record can lead or lag the paper in the window. When they differ, the app is showing the most recent published record.
What is the Dog Score?
DailyDog's own 0–100 food-quality assessment — not a government rating. It weighs the city's inspection scores (favoring full inspections over post-cleanup re-checks), recent critical food-safety violations, rodent and pest findings, and health-department shutdowns. It deliberately ignores fines and administrative paperwork: it answers "how clean is the kitchen," not "how much does this business owe."
Why does a restaurant show no score?
New spots and places without a recent scored inspection are "unproven" — the app won't pretend to know. They're excluded from the ranked leaderboards until the city scores them.
Something looks wrong. How do I report it?
Use the contact form linked below with the restaurant's name and address. If the city's published record itself is wrong, we can't change it — but we'll verify what the app shows against the record and fix anything on our side.
Does the app track me?
No. No accounts, no ads, no analytics SDKs, favorites stay on your device, and location (if you allow it) is only used to find restaurants near you. Details in the privacy policy.
